Japanese deep-tech company Stark Global is establishing its Swedish office and laboratory in Södertälje, Sweden. The Swedish operation will serve as a hub for the company’s Northern European expansion, creating a base for future growth, research and collaboration in Sweden and across Europe. Move-in to the new premises is planned before the end of 2026.
–The establishment in Södertälje gives us a strong industrial base with close proximity to leading life science players. It provides excellent conditions for taking the next steps in both Sweden and Europe, says Keiichi Wakui, Co Founder, CEO, Stark Global Japan Co., Ltd.
The agreements are now in place and Stark Global’s establishment is moving into its next phase. The announcement follows a close establishment process in which company representatives have visited Södertälje on several occasions, met with businesses, property owners and suppliers, and explored the city’s opportunities within research, industry and life science.
Södertälje is one of Sweden’s established industrial and life science centres. Located around 30 minutes south of Stockholm, the city is home to global companies such as Scania and AstraZeneca. Stark Global’s establishment adds a Japanese deep-tech company to an ecosystem shaped by advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical expertise, research and international business.
–It is a strong and positive signal that Stark Global has chosen Södertälje. The decision says a great deal about the strengths we have here in industry, life science and our international business environment. This is exactly the kind of establishment we want to attract more of to Södertälje, says Aljoša Lagumdžija, CEO, Södertälje City
Södertälje to become the base for the expansion
Stark Global Japan Co., Ltd. is a Japanese deep-tech company focused on areas including advanced cultivation and the sustainable production of food and medical resources. Through a multimillion investment in both life science and food production, the company aims to create innovative collaborations with international and local partners. The company has highlighted Södertälje’s industrial heritage, international environment and strong position within life science as important factors in its choice of location. The existing ecosystem provides a strong platform for partnerships, recruitment and future growth.
The Swedish operation is intended to provide a platform for Stark Global’s continued development in Northern Europe, combining office and laboratory functions with access to an established industrial and life science environment.
–Södertälje has a unique combination of world-leading industry, life science, entrepreneurship, international expertise and strong export opportunities. Stark Global’s establishment shows that these strengths are also internationally competitive. SBB becomes the landlord
A key part of the process has been finding premises suitable for both office and laboratory operations. Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget, SBB, will be the landlord for Stark Global’s Swedish operation.
–This has been an exciting process in which we have worked together to find a solution that meets the needs of the operation. As a property owner, it is about understanding the business and creating the right conditions for it to develop. We are very pleased to welcome Stark Global to Södertälje, says Anders Hallquist, Head of Leasing, SBB
The establishment process has involved Södertälje City, Södertälje Municipality, SBB and Business Sweden, among others, supporting the project with business contacts, premises, establishment matters and introductions to the local business community.
